Internships Programme

Interns have been making excellent contributions to the IHR for many years. Now, at a time when students and early career historians need our help, we would like to expand our paid internships programme to create new and impactful opportunities for them at the IHR.

Internships at the IHR

The IHR has been hosting talented interns for a number of years. Sitting alongside various teams, these students and early career researchers (ECRs) have been invaluable members of the IHR. They have helped to take forward strategic and important projects, from improving British History Online to analysing publishing trends in political history.

We are usually able to offer two or three internships per year but are eager to expand this programme, awarding up to ten placements throughout the year. This is especially vital now, as the COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate effect on students and ECRs, with opportunities for paid experience now even harder to come by.

While at the IHR, interns will receive a grant to take on one or two projects that support our mission as the UK's national centre for history. They will benefit from skills training, mentoring, and a hands-on look at what it can mean to be a historian. All donations to our internships programme will have a direct impact on creating new opportunities for talent to flourish.
