Internships Programme
During our Centenary we want to lay the foundations to be able to offer more paid internships to students and early career researchers. This year (July to September 2021) we offered three placements but we are eager to expand our programme, especially as opportunities for paid experience are increasingly scarce.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors we are able to offer four paid internships for early career historians, to be held between June and September 2022. These donors are recognised as Centenary Donors.
Internships at the IHR
Therefore, in our centenary year we have been able to widen this programme and offer more paid internships and so grow our scheme. Not only benefitting our interns who receive valuable paid experience but also supporting the work of the IHR.
We are delighted to recognise donors to this appeal as Centenary Donors* and acknowledged as such on our website and other media.

Feedback from this our 2021 interns
Dr Hannah Parker, the second of our interns and who undertook a variety of work within History and Policy, credits the internship with allowing her to stay in academia and enhance her CV with a range of activities. She states that without this chance,
It is likely that I would have needed to commit myself entirely to non-academic work and potentially moved away from academia permanently…In short, the internship has been invaluable to me both personally and in scholarship.
Vesna Curlic, a 2nd year doctoral student, focused on Jewish histories of London states that,
The stipend for this project made it financially feasible to take on this work... and it has been such a rewarding and enriching experience!
Interns receive a grant to take on one or two projects that support our work as the UK’s national centre for history.
They also benefit from skills training, mentoring, and a hands-on look at what it can mean to be an historian.
All donations to our internships programme will have a direct impact on creating new opportunities for talent to flourish.
Thank you
