The role of the historian is ever evolving. The relationship with the public realm is, now more than ever, a crucial and important aspect to help us explore our many histories. Public engagement roles involve complex skills, code switching abilities and relationship management strategies.

In this session speakers discussed and explored the pitfalls to avoid, and shared tips and tricks to support your work, or help you better support those delivering public engagement work in your teams. We’ll draw on the expertise and knowledge of highly experienced public engagement practitioners, particularly those with experience of working with under-represented groups and sharing marginalised stories.

Speakers included:

  • Amy Todd - Co-founder of Dig Yourself public engagement agency / Learning and Engagement Manager for Sound City (Chair)
  • Banu Aydinoglugil - Programme Manager, Newington Green Meeting House
  • Holly Jones - Sound City
  • Nadia Joseph - Anti-Apartheid Centre of Memory and Learning
  • Jessica Sache - Digital Archive project co-ordinator, Facing the Past (Lancaster)

This event was organised in partnership with Dig Yourself.
